KENTUCKY WINDOW TINT LAW ALLOWS THE FOLLOWING DARKNESS FOR CAR WINDOW TINTINGThe darkness of tint is measured by (VLT%) Visible Light Transmission percentage. In Kentucky window tint law, this percentage refers to percentage of visible light allowed to pass through the combination of film and the factory tint of the window.

Windshield | Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line. |
Front Side Windows |
Must allow more than a total of 35% light in. |
Back Side Windows | Must allow more than a total of 18% light in. *(MPVs allow 8% light transmission) |
Rear Window | Must allow more than a total of 18% light in. *(MPVs allow 8% light transmission) |
HOW REFLECTIVE CAN THE TINT BE ON AUTO WINDOWS ACCORDING TO KENTUCKY WINDOW TINT LAW?Tinting film can contain metallic elements (silver mirror look) that help to reflect incoming light and reject the glare and heat generated by visible light. |

Back Side Windows | Must not be more than a total of 25% reflective (silver mirror look). |

Restricted Colors | No colors of tint are explicitly banned. |
Side Mirrors | No restrictions. |
Certificate Requirements | Manufacturers of film need to certify the film they sell in the state. Ask your dealer if they are using certified film. |
Sticker Requirements | The sticker to identify legal tinting is required on the inside of the driver’s side doorjamb. |
Medical Exemption | Kentucky law does NOT allow medical exemptions for special tint use. |
